Location

Bethesda Recovery is located in Waycross, Ga., the principal city in the micropolitan area that covers Pierce and Ware counties. In the 2000 Census, these two counties had a combined population of 51,119.

Waycross gets its name from the city’s location at key railroad junctions. Lines from six directions meet at the city. Its name signifies its strategic position where “Ways Cross.” Interesting, even in colonial days, Waycross was the hub of stagecoach roads and pioneer trails. Later the old Plant System and the Brunswick and Western Railroad lines crossed here, giving birth to a modern railroad network. You can learn more about Waycross by visiting the city’s website at: www.waycrossga.com

Local Attraction: The Okefenokee Swamp

Bethesda Recovery enjoys a close proximity to the Okefenokee Swamp, the largest, intact and un-fragmented wetland wilderness swamp in North America.
Many Bethesda clients and their families have enjoyed taking the scenic tour of this amazing attraction during a Saturday family visit or outing.

This amazing natural environment covers approximately 700-square miles in Southeast Georgia. The word “Okefenokee” is what the Native American Creek and Seminole tribes called the, “Land of Trembling Earth.” An abundance of wildlife—from alligators to a variety of fowl—can be seen on tours of the Okefenokee Swamp.
